Puppy Vaccines

The schedule below begins at 2 weeks of age.  This is only a guideline to follow.  Your individual puppies care may vary depending on your puppies lifestyle.  Is your dog going to be an outdoor dog only? Do you live in the country with raccoons, skunks and other wildlife? Is your dog going to be boarding frequently? The answers to these questions will give us a more detailed protocol to follow for your puppy.

2-3 weeks of age: Deworm with Pyrantel

4-6 weeks of age: Deworm with Pyrantel

7-9 weeks of age: Deworm with Drontal, begin vaccination series of Da2PP (distemper combo), give bordetella vaccine.  RECEIVE FREE DOSE OF ADVANTAGE.

14-16 weeks of age: Give 3rd Da2PP or Da2LPP (includes Lepto) and Rabies vaccine. RECEIVE FREE DOSE OF FRONTLINE PLUS. PURCHASE HEARTWORM PREVENTION.  *Can Spay/Neuter*

Pyrantel is a dewormer that will destroy roundworms and hookworms.

Drontal is a dewormer that will destroy roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms.

Bordetella is the "kennel cough" vaccine and is required for puppy classes, boarding and some grooming salons.

Da2PP is the distemper combo vaccination that includes the parvo vaccination.  This combo vaccine protects your puppy from upper respiratory viruses and intestinal viruses, which some can become fatal.  The Da2LPP is the same vaccination but contains Lepto protection.  Leptospirosis is a disease that effects the kidneys and is spread by ingesting the organism.  The location of this disease is found in water that has been contaminated with the infected urine of a raccoon, squirrel, or other wildlife animal. This disease can be transmitted to humans.

Rabies is a virus that is contagious from animals to humans.  This is a virus that affects the central nervous system and has no treatment.  This is a MANDATORY vaccination to be performed once yearly with an option of a three year vaccine after the initial one year booster. Rabies is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal such as raccoons, skunks and other wildlife animals.
